Texas Holdem Tips

Texas Holdem Mistakes

1. Playing too many hands:
Some new players that get involved in the game of poker want to play really bad. So they end up playing really stupid beginning cards. Don’t do this! It's a waste of your and the other player's time.

2. Never reveal your cards during a hand:
This is a huge mistake. If you fold, or go all in and there are still players on the board, don’t show your beginning cards. A lot of times when a new player folds, he/she may flip the cards over or toss them in the dead pile in a fit of rage. This gives other players still in the hand an advantage thus making the pot corrupt.

3. Imitating Other Players:
During a game amateur's may tend to imitate the winning player. Pay attention to yourself while playing to make sure you don't do this. First off, a lot of poker players are really bad, and that means you're simply picking up their bad habits. Imitating moves will not improve your game, and understanding of the complexity of the game is the only thing that will help you win.

4. Becoming too emotional at the table:
Losing happens, taking bad beats happen, you'll come across some real jerks, you'll annoy people at times. Don't let this ruin your game or hand. Remain calm and don't let your emotions get the best of you.

5. Gloating:
Don't brag. Nobody likes a cocky jerk. Keep your comments to yourself and just play the game.

6. Not using pot odds:
If you find yourself losing a lot, then maybe calculating pot odds will help you in your game play.

7. Playing above your bankroll:
Don't dig in your pockets or run out of money if you get bet out of a game. This only encourages compulsive betting. Get yourself some help!

8. Just not using proper etiquette:
If you stick to the basic rules and don't be a jackass then you should be ok. Don't do things like "I call your bet and I raise you 10 gazillion." This kind of thing is just annoying.
